Portrait of an artist as a young woman: Kate Domina

I’m currently taking a portraiture course at George Brown College and had the recent pleasure of photographing artist Kate Domina. Kate is a Toronto-based figurative painter who works with oils, using children and adolescents as her subjects. Her work is highly evocative and she has a unique, often whimsical style with a great sense of light and texture. She’s show most recently at Wallspace Gallery and Gallery 129 in Toronto, and illustrated the limited-edition children’s book The Day they Blew Away by Tamara Salpeter. Her work is well worth checking out. I’m looking forward to photographing Kate for a series later this summer.
